Our Pricing, “The Spirit of the Gift” and The Dana (Gift) Economy
A Different Way of Exchange
For the majority of my adult life, I have been inspired by “Dana, or Gift Economy”. This is a tradition and culture, arriving from ancient India. Dana means generosity. The intention is to create experiences for all peoples, and that healing and spirituality is a knowledge that cannot be put a price on or quantified. It also intuits that if we can fully receive an experience, without the expectation of “paying” for that experience in return, it creates a fundamental shift in how that person receives what they are given.
I have been privileged to witness the power of Dana economy in action, initially through my time serving and living at Vipassana Meditation Centres, through my own therapeutical work and in hosting people on retreat over the last years. I have come to name it “The Spirit of The Gift”.
Over the last year, in order to accommodate different styles of retreats, and also unique needs of each individual, I have transitioned to offering retreats on both a donation basis and sliding scale.
Last year we hosted people directly on the land, and in our family space. Soon after I found a little cabin up on the hill to rent to be able to accommodate people, and as of June 2025 I began to rent a piece of land and accommodations in the valley with pool and yoga deck in order to host people in an even more ideal setting.
Due to the nature of needing to rent a place and working 1 on 1 with people, I have found that requiring a deposit from guests to confirm their spot is of importance right now. The deposit covers the bare expenses of food and rent for 7 days stay and is $500 for an individual and $600 for couples.
Some retreats are given “In the Spirit of The Gift”, meaning that guests will give their initial deposit before arriving and are then invited to leave a donation at the end of their experience. The intention is not to give for what they have received, but to contribute towards another person also having an experience too, and to also towards the vision and project, a permanent place dedicated to this work.
Other retreats are given on a sliding scale, which means a contribution to Anatta of $2000-5000 is suggested (including the deposit). The initial deposit is given before arrival and the rest of the contribution on departure.
In the future I hope to be able to work on a pure Dana basis, meaning that there will be no money taken for board and lodging from guests before the beginning of retreat. Only afterwards can guests leave donations towards the project.
